Mr Merlin wins UK Children’s Entertainer of the Year Award

Bournemouth based entertainer, Wyn Jones, has just got back from a national Children’s Entertainer convention in Wolverhampton where he was crowned Kidology UK Children’s Entertainer of The Year.

The popular and busy entertainer, who goes by the name Mr Merlin, along with his ventriloquist puppet Okey Dokey, competed against 5 other professional acts from across the country and performed in front of an audience of invited children and other entertainers. The contest was judged by an audience of his peers and included marks for Magical Content, Originality and Entertainment Value.  Mr Merlin triumphed on Monday evening and along with an exquisite trophy he also received a prize of £200 to spend at the convention.

Mr Merlin said, “I am delighted to have won and to have been recognised by my peers in this way is really rewarding.”

Starting as a Bluecoat for Pontins in 1990, Mr Merlin has now been a full time professional entertainer for nearly 20 years. He also performs for adults as a table magician and as a comedy magician in cabaret, which he started doing in 1997. In his first year he got to the final of the Echo Startrail at Bournemouth Pavilion. A competition won by Britain’s Got Talent 2013 Finalist - Ventriloquist Steve Hewlett and judged by a certain Amanda Holden. The family man with 18 month old twins hails from Wales but has made Bournemouth his home since 1994. His act is firm favourite with local families and tourists alike and is often seen enthralling children in Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens at the Kids Fun Festival every summer and at numerous birthday parties and family celebrations throughout the year.
